doctor, doctor give me the news

So Nico had a drs appt today and it went fine. The thing that really ticked me off was that we had to wait for an hour before we saw the dr. A flipping hour...are you kidding me? So while I like Nico's dr, I am seriously considering another dr. My ideal doc would be: cutting edge, prompt, interested in holistic remedies, hesitant to medicate and have an awesome bedside manner. Does that one exist?
So when we finally saw the doctor she was impressed with N's growth and development.
He is 16lbs. 1 0z, 25 3/4 inches and he is in the 25 percentile for weight, length and head circumference. All good news. She gave me the go ahead to continue w/the cereal and we discussed some food choices. She suggested that N start transitioning to his crib and I don't think he liked that one bit. After all of the pleasantries, N got his shots. He was good. He seemed a bit surprised but he didn't cry too much. He calmed down right away and he has been a lazy lima been tonight. I hope he is back to normal tomorrow. We go back in 3 months.

and the flip side to he reaches is... he kicks away

My little sweetie has discovered the power of his legs. If he were only using this ability to push up it would be excellent, but no he has discovered that when we are trying to pull him close if he kick his legs out he doesn't have to comply. What a little stinker. This makes trying to get him to relax and go to sleep a little bit of a challenge. I am pulling him close and he is pulling away all with a determined smile on his face. I just let him win. What is a little more play time at 9pm anyway?D and I marvel at the way he changes every single day. I hope that he starts using those little powerful thighs to start crawling although I may regret saying so.

Doctor's appointment this afternoon :( (more shots)

6 Months ... 1/2 a year already?

Wow my baby is growing so fast. I can't believe that he is already six months. I guess I say that at every month's milestone. But really, where did my tiny wrinkly-legged baby boy go? He has been replaced by my chubby-legged, always moving little side kick and you know what I love it!! Every day is a new experience with my cutie on duty. He is so much fun. A lot more of a challenge but so much fun.
So at 6 months Mr. Nico can:
* sit-up pretty much unassisted, sometime he falls backwards but for the most part he sits up
*splash you up when he is in the tub...those legs and that right hand are pretty powerful things
*entertain himself for a little bit
*grab for things that he wants
*jump up and down when you hold his hand
*hold onto his sippy cup (he's still trying to figure that thing out)
*eat new things...he has enjoyed oat cereal and avocado
*he's getting strong enough to push the balls on his toy to make the thing light up

All in all, my boy is still bringing us the joy that he started bringing us six short months ago. I am loving him more than I thought possible. He makes me care more about everything and want to protect him from anything. He has changed me. I am so in love!!!
Cheers!!

he's reaching

I kinda thought he was reaching for me before but now there is no doubt about it, Nico is reaching for us when he wants to be picked up. Oh he is also doing these really cool belly laughs like he is sooooo tickled. And in the not so cool realm, he is getting really mad when you leave his line of vision.

Nico's new book

We had a great day today. We went to an art's festival and got to hear some music and avoid making too many purchases. Nico slept for part of the festival but he did wake up in time to hear the talented lady belting out some tunes and help me pick out some books for his library. We got this cute book:
The book is part of a series about foods from different cultures. The art is pretty cool, quilt like images that practically jump off the pages. A real treat. I hope N likes it. I have no doubt that he will one day love all of the real soul food that he will eat in the years to come.

The Little Bookworm

My little scholar loves his books. He enjoys listening to stories and he really loves trying to eat the pages. Nico has all kinds of books: books for the tub, board books, touch and feel books, cloth books and on and on!! You gotta foster the love of literature early;)
Oh and I think his new chalkboard diaper is my favorite!!!

5 months is flying by...

5 months is flying by and N is growing so much every day! He is such a happy little boy. Always smiling, laughing and squealing with delight. This morning I was so sad to leave him because he was up and being his fantastic self. Thank goodness I get to leave him in my my mom's good hands.

So at 5 months Nico enjoys:
sucking his hands
jumping in his jumperoo
pulling himself up
reaching for everything, especially Momma's hair
poking out his lips in the cutest pout ever
looking all around and making eye contact
playing with his blocks
listening to music

Look out 6 months we are heading your way at full speed! Oh my, I don't think I can handle it ;)

Cool as a Cucumber

Today was such a warm day that N was able to show off his chubby thighs. Looking at those thighs always reminds me that he is getting to be such a big boy. When he was a newborn, those thighs were so thin and fragile looking and now his thighs are the strongest little thighs ever. So N wore his first romper shorts thing and I loved him in it! We had a nice day. We did a little shopping. I carried him around on me which always prompts people to comment to me about how they wish someone would carry them around like that. Yeah, ok. I always like wearing him. I like that it keeps my hands free and it keeps him super close to me which is so relaxing for him that he always falls asleep. As a bonus, it even allows him to discretely nurse if he is positioned right...I don't know why more people don't wear there babies. Anyway, we had a good day together and N was a trooper as always.

Nico's Stash

Everyone knows I have a soft spot in my heart for Nico's cloth diapers. So far they have been super easy to use and they have kept Nico's bum in good health. No diaper rash etc. His stash is a work in progress, sometimes I like pockets and sometimes I love the fitteds but his bum is always covered in style. So this is what his dipes look like on laundry day.

Friday Fun

While his Momma is stuck at work N gets to hang out in Baltimore with his Grammy and Cousin Jamie. They are off to have brunch at Miss Shirley's Cafe and I am sure he will have a ball. Nico loves going out and taking in all the sights.

when I move you move, just like that ...

My baby is such the heat seeker, all night we do this dance where I scoot over and he scoots over until finds me or the fusses for the boob. It is really quite predictable. I wake up and notice that he is practically getting smooched by me so I move over and he instantly stirs to get near me. I don't know how he can be in a deep sleep and feel me the instant I turn. It is truly unreal. I really have no issues with co-sleeping and find that on most nights it works but some nights man he really has me worried. I worry that he is not getting a good night's sleep and I also worry that he will be in our bed when he gets to high school! Are sleep interrupted nights the trade off for the happy little man that I get during the day...if so I will take it!
