Where has the time gone and damn what a difference a month makes!! He has really plumped up this past month and some of the newborn wringled upness is gone. That is cool because he is getting stronger everyday, responding to our voices and whoa his lungs are at 100%! He is getting to the point where he enjoys his swing and sleeps for more than 10 minutes and not just on my chest. The nights are getting better and one of the best things in the world is to see him smiling up at me in the morning...gosh, I love this boy!

he really knows me
I am well aware of babies knowing their momma from the jump but yesterday I really felt that he knows me. Cool ain't it. Anyway D was holding him and I came in the room talking to D, N instantly started bobbing his head around looking for me and when I didn't scoop him up he started crying. Yeah, he knows his Momma. Further proof was when he was sitting in his swing and he saw& heard me... his eyes locked on me and that was it. He knows his number one lady!!!

It's only 1pm
And I have changed Nico's outfit twice, fed him constantly, threw a load of his clothes in the dryer, cloth diapes in the wash, rocked him, changed his diaper to only hear him go poo so I had to change him again pronto and now he is asleep on my chest. Wow what a way to start a day. Do you want to know why I am so swamped... because my mother went out today. When she is here and Nico is going through all of this I hardly notice because she is a one woman miracle worker and I never notice the mountain of things that she & I are doing. Anyway smelling his neck, seeing his tiny face or him gripping my finger makes all of this work seem like small stuff.

3 weeks in
and life is good. some nights are rough- no one is prepared to be up and aler at 3 am after having a full day but for the most part things are going very well. Nico is truly a joy and i look at him and am so completly filled with happiness. he seems to be pretty content here and we are able to soothe him without much issue.
we are getting ready for the holidays and he has gifts under the tree. the gifts are from his Grammy though because i haven't gotten him anything. does that make me a bad mommy? i can't imagine anything else that he needs besides my constant cloth diaper purchases are all for him, right. i should insert that i may truly need an intervention. not that i was buying the cute diapes today no i was getting the necessities (the never ending list of necessities) and they are not as fun as the cute diapes. but i digress. nothing under the tree to Nico from his mommy & daddy or santa either. we will just have to tell him how nice he has been :)
anywhoo. Nico has his first photo shoot with my talented friend M and can I just say the photos are amazing. she did an incredible job and i am very pleased with the results. i love the way they turned out and i can't wait to share the pics.

He's Plumping Up
So looking at my sweetie it seems like he is plumping up. I guess the breastfeeding must be going well because he looks like he is getting bigger. His little newborn face is filling out and I imagine his legs cant be far behind. Embrace the cuteness! He is also so alert-looking around and taking it all in. It is amazing to watch him changing and noticing us more.
I will post some pics tomorrow.

2 weeks old
Well Nico is 2 weeks old now and I fall in love more everyday. Well last night as he was bawling and refusing to sleep, I can't say that it was growing love that I felt. I am so indebted to D as he woke right up and handled Nico as he was obviously finished with me. But that was our night Nico was in complete control of us. 7lbs and 7ozs of master of my parents.
We had a drs appt yesterday and he is gaining weight and doing well. He was such a trooper as he got his PKU shot and he was wighed and prodded by the dr. I am glad that he is gaining weight because although I felt he was eating well and latching on properly it is great to get it confirmed.
The cloth diapers are going well too. I am still getting my stash together. You realize you need new things all the time. But truthfully they are fine. I haven't had any issues with washing them so I am so glad that I got them. The nurse at the drs office said she had never seen anything like them before, that was too funny.
oh he had his first bath and he did great. I was a nervous wreck but he had a grand ole time in the tub.
So two weeks in and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Nico's Birth Story- 11/24 @ 12:25 pm
At about 2:30 am I woke to go to the bathroom and I noticed a little bit of blood so I assumed that I lost my mucus plug. I could not go back to sleep so I decided to clean up the kitchen and get ready for the work day. Well I started feeling period like cramping and figured that something was going on but I did not think that I was in labor. D woke up during all of this and he was certain that I was in labor and he started the process of being a supportive hubby :) I was feeling some pains- I didn't feel like they were necessarily strong enough to be considered contractions but I timed them and called the doctor. At this point they were coming about 6 minutes apart so she told me to labor at home for as long as possible. Well I rested for about a half hour and then took a a shower to hopefully relieve some of the pressure and that helped a bit. At that point D was timing the contractions and he said they were under 4 minutes so finally at 7:00 am we left for the hospital. At the hospital they put me in a room and the not so nice nurse was asking me a million questions and having me lay on one side because when I laid down comfortably that made his heart rate decline. I was hooked up to all the monitors and the doctor- my least favorite from the practice mind you- checked me and lo and behold I was about 4 cm. dialated. Up to labor and delivery I went. I was finally approved for the epidural when I reached my L& D room- it was helpful but it was not the lifesaver that I imagined that it would be. I still felt a great deal of painful pressure and I see why they call it labor! I labored for a bit more and before I knew it I was at 9cm and the dr said it was a go. Three quick pushes and at 12:25pm we welcomed Nico Smith into the world! 7lbs. and 20 inches of perfection.
