Nico's Birth Story- 11/24 @ 12:25 pm

At about 2:30 am I woke to go to the bathroom and I noticed a little bit of blood so I assumed that I lost my mucus plug. I could not go back to sleep so I decided to clean up the kitchen and get ready for the work day. Well I started feeling period like cramping and figured that something was going on but I did not think that I was in labor. D woke up during all of this and he was certain that I was in labor and he started the process of being a supportive hubby :) I was feeling some pains- I didn't feel like they were necessarily strong enough to be considered contractions but I timed them and called the doctor. At this point they were coming about 6 minutes apart so she told me to labor at home for as long as possible. Well I rested for about a half hour and then took a a shower to hopefully relieve some of the pressure and that helped a bit. At that point D was timing the contractions and he said they were under 4 minutes so finally at 7:00 am we left for the hospital. At the hospital they put me in a room and the not so nice nurse was asking me a million questions and having me lay on one side because when I laid down comfortably that made his heart rate decline. I was hooked up to all the monitors and the doctor- my least favorite from the practice mind you- checked me and lo and behold I was about 4 cm. dialated. Up to labor and delivery I went. I was finally approved for the epidural when I reached my L& D room- it was helpful but it was not the lifesaver that I imagined that it would be. I still felt a great deal of painful pressure and I see why they call it labor! I labored for a bit more and before I knew it I was at 9cm and the dr said it was a go. Three quick pushes and at 12:25pm we welcomed Nico Smith into the world! 7lbs. and 20 inches of perfection.
