Doctor, doctor

Monday was N's 2 months doctor visit.Three weeks late because his dr was out of the country.

The stats:

13 lbs 2 oz.
24 and 1/4 inches

Drs observations:

growing well
great head and neck control
very strong

And on to the yuckiness. N had to get his vaccinations. Ugh I was such a baby about it, I cried and couldn't look. D held him and N cried. I did pull it together enough to console and nurse N afterwards. He slept for most of the day but by 7ish he was bright eyed and laughing like his normal self.

First Playdate

Nico had his first play date on Monday with Christian, Kelly's cutie pie. Kelly and I went through our pregnancies together and she delived her son just 2 short weeks after Nico was born. Christian is just starting to go out so we figured it was high time these two boys got together.

It was too funny to see the boys look at each other. The checked each other out and seemed amazed/confused that other people could be the same size. The boys were great. They cried both in unison and alone. They were troopers as Kelly and I shopped... I mean they could probably tell that they were getting more clothes so why fuss. They were pretty well behaved as we had our lunch. Nico was busy taking in all the sights until he pooped out and Christian didn't let the mall get the best of him. Kelly and I had our hands full and I am certain that this was the first of many play dates with Christian.

my big boy

today n took a bottle. what is strange about that is everyone says that breastfed babies may resist the bottle. d gave his his first bottle a few weeks ago when i was out and i wasn't sure how it really went. yeah, i knew he took the bottle but i wasn't sure just how miserable he was before he took it. which brings me to today. i was cooking dinner and d was convinced that n was hungry. i didn't know what to think. if you are responsible for the feedings than anytime anything is wrong feeding him is the suggested remedy. so i took out the bottle that i had in the fridge and when d had to give it to him, n refused it. well after i finished cooking, i wasn't going to let my liquid gold (breastmilk) go to waste. so i tried feeding it to him and he gulped it down. didn't leave one drop. yes he looked at me a little confused and sort of pecked the nipple a bit but he downed it. it was great but it made me sad. it didn't feel right to be feeding my baby that way, sort of like he didn't need me :( but that was short lived as he went straight for his momma when he was done. he clearly wasn't satisfied and he cuddled with me post eating as usual.

Nico is a very busy little one. This week he is cooing and talking a bunch. He has started reaching for things and holding on tight to his toys. Such a big boy!! He surprised me when I put a toy in front of him and he grabbed it. Wanna know where the toy went? Right into his mouth. He is fascinated with his hands and his mouth so it makes perfect sense that everything ends up there.

Nico also has a case of cradle cap. (Cradle cap which looks like dandruff or dry scalp is very common in babies and doesn't aggravate them.) So we are working on getting rid of this nuisance. He gets a nice olive oil scalp massage followed by a warm bath...ahh bliss!!

He is enjoying his tunes. When I put on his music he starts kicking his hands and waving his arms. It makes morning time and changing time quite exciting. We both love the African playground tunes.

He is so alert. He loves looking around and taking everything in when we go out. He doesn't seem to mind being in his carseat either. He especially likes the two toys his grandmother bought to use on his travels...the lights & music keep him entertained in the car.

All in all Nico is doing awesome and I am truly enjoying him!!!

we were surprised by a box from my nearly lifelong friend n. and can I just say i am so thrilled with what was inside. she sent n some adorable pieces for his wardrobe... the sleep sack is actually something that i needed to pick up on saturday from babies r us but i forgot once i had to hightail it out of the store to nurse. but the thing or things that quite literally made me drool was the wool shorties. ahhh wool shorties...handmade wool shorties are the perfect diaper covers, once you lanolize them they are able to keep in the wetness like other diaper covers and they are breathable too. they are super cute and the best part is they are handmade with love. now as n doesn't knit or have the time to make 3 pairs of wool shorties, she outsourced the job but i tell you they are truly perfect. for any mama who loves cloth diapering as much as i do then these are the perfect accessory... i can't wait until n gets to wear these bad boys. and to think the night before i was eyeballing some on etsy. yay, yay, yay and if you listen really carefully you can hear my squeals of joy ;)
